I have been given my great grandmother’s collection of shells. An extraordinarily beautiful compilation from all over
the world, many of which housed creatures that are now endangered. By looking so closely at the things she had also
looked at so closely feels like a thread connecting us.
I photograph and paint them and so many Others from Nature with gratitude and attention – the gift of seeing and
being present with the more than human world – artists can offer this reciprocal gift to open eyes which can lead to
open hearts.
“Finding beauty in a broken world is creating beauty in the world we find. For me, we find this beauty through
relationships, with people in place with other species.” – Terry Tempest Williams
